Spicy Rice Cooker Lentils

This is an experiment gone horribly right. This was my first time making lentils in the rice cooker. I think one cooking cycle is perfect for brown lentils. This isn’t an exact recipe but a list of things I put in – i forgot to measure some things.

Spicy Rice Cooker Lentils

1/2 cup brown lentils
Enough water to reach the 1 cup line of the rice cooker
1 bay leaf
2 tablespoons diced onion
1 chicken consomme cube
1 teaspoon garam masala
A pinch of salt
4 black peppercorns
1/2 carrot, diced
1 potato, diced

Put everything in the rice cooker, stir and press start. When it beeps, serve. I served mine over salad spinach.

  2. I bought a rice cooker a while ago and only used it for rice so far, but I’ve read that it’s possible to use it for other things as well, although I never saw actual evidence for that so far. Exciting! Thank you for sharing! šŸ˜€

    • You can also kind of use it as a slow cooker. Whatever you are cooking needs to be cooked to a safe level during the “rice cooking” phase, if meat is involved, and then the rice cooker will keep it warm all day.
